Still Waters

We’re not always lucky enough to experience tranquility. In fact, more often than not, our lives seem to be the very antithesis of the notion. Even so, there is peace to be had if we will but trust enough to enjoy it…

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.” – Psalm 23:2

Have you ever just took the time to forget about all of the concerns that may be swirling in your head and lay down on the soft grass of a field, looking up at the bright blue sky as the woolly clouds drift overhead? Perhaps you have taken the time to lazily enjoy the gentle babble of a stream as it gurgled by? I have rarely taken the time to do these things, I admit, but I have done them enough to confidently say that there is a certain peacefulness to be had in the experience. Peace, especially today, is rare commodity. It needn’t be so though.

Isaiah 43:2 declares “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

God did not make you to suffer. He didn’t make you to be a creature of fear or anxiety. He did not make you to be an object of anger or wrath. God made you to trust Him. He, like a good Father, wants you to enjoy the time you spend with Him, to talk to Him openly and honestly, not avoid it like an uncomfortable discussion. He desires communion with you, to see you flourish and prosper through His love and in accord with the plan He has just for you!

God loves you and wants you to know true, lasting peace. It can only be found in Him, by understanding that, no matter what other offers may be out there, no matter what may seem at the moment to be a higher priority, only in Him is found the truth. Only in that truth is found lasting peace and eternal life.

You were not made to run a race or fight for the right to enjoy this life. You were made to realize that He loved you enough to pay a ransom for your very soul. He loves you still, and He is waiting on you right now to trust Him enough to walk beside the still waters of peace that He has prepared for you. All you need do is lay aside the fears and worries of this world and take His hand…
