Whispers in the Heart, Part 14

This week we continue on with the first chapter of my “Remnants of Eden: Evolution, Deep-Time, & the Antediluvian World.” God bless, and stay with me as the story unfolds with the next post…

Over the next few months, under Fred’s guidance, I began to seek additional members of my start-up team. In August of 2009, I made contact with the first attorney on my list. He listened quietly as I spoke, briefly describing my need for legal consultation concerning my start-up company. He agreed to meet with me early the next morning.

Early that morning, I stood in the lobby of his building. I sat quiet, contemplative, until I was beckoned towards the office.

I approached the door and tentatively knocked. As I stepped into his office, Carl Forstall stepped forward, hand extended, broad smile shining across his face. He motioned me to take a seat. As I did, I took a moment to ready myself for the presentation, focusing on the smell of aging books and the early morning sunlight.

As with Fred, I opened my briefcase and began explaining my goals and the company that I believed would make them a reality. My voice began to crack shortly into the presentation, and Carl, smiling, encouraged me, telling me to not be so nervous. He picked up the phone, and, calling Janice, asked her to bring a few sodas. My hesitation melted immediately, and I knew at that moment that I liked Carl and wanted him aboard. Like Fred, he and I became fast friends.

After I finished speaking, Carl had several questions. Even so, his enthusiasm was obvious. As we wrapped-up, he told me that he would need some time to think about it, but that he would be in touch. I left his office that day walking a little taller, feeling just a bit more confident about how things were moving along. By the end of the day, that confidence skyrocketed, as Carl phoned to inform me that he too wanted aboard. As with Fred, I offered him 2% of the company, and he readily accepted.

Carl’s enthusiasm for my research became a driving force in those early days. Not only did he advise me on whatever legal matters he could, but also offered his office as a gathering place for business meetings and investment presentations. He immediately began to reach out to local contacts of his, business owners, developers and others, in an attempt to start securing the capital we needed to move forward.
