Reluctant Provisions, Part 5

I’ve told you before that I am a man of obsession. When I find a subject that interests me, I pick it apart. I look at it deeply. I twist it this way and that, follow this lead and that lead and study it until I can reach a conclusion. I’m afraid to admit that my propensity for obsession has, in the past, lead me to some bad places, having me ask questions that perhaps I shouldn’t have asked. Obsession can drive us, and as dangerous as it can be if left uncontrolled, a bit of directed obsession can be a good thing…

It is my habit of obsessing that led me where I am today, because friend, the Word of God is one thing I’ve found that I can study without ever reaching a conclusion! It’s the one thing I’ve found that never can be exhausted of information or worth or intrigue! Thus I ask you, don’t we all have a little room for obsession?

Your Bible, whether you know it or not, is the most powerful physical possession you have! We all would do a little better to obsess a little more over it, to dig a little deeper into it and consume every word that has been breathed by God!

0047 - Can the Bible be Proven

I know what you are thinking: Who has time for that? I work and I have this and that to do and obligation after obligation, so where am I supposed to find the time?

Friends, I never said it was gonna be easy. Jesus never said it was gonna be easy, that it was gonna be a smooth road. You know what he did say? He said “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

That’s what he said, and by knowing the Word, and living the Word, and not being afraid to share the Word is how we accomplish it!

Do you watch television? Do you hunt, fish, go to ballgames, pursue any number of hobbies? How often do you go about these things? Now, how often amongst all of that could you say that you just didn’t have time to look at the Word of God? I know it’s not easy. I can tell you from my own life that it’s hard balancing obligation with calling and still having time for a little entertainment. It’s hard, but we all have to acknowledge that something has to be done!

Who will feed the lost but those who do believe? And what are we believers to feed the hungry if not the Word? How can we share the Word if we don’t ourselves know it? How are we to answer the questions of the faithless if we don’t have them ourselves?!

So, I ask you. Are you a reluctant provision?

Is the Lord extending His hand to you, pointing you towards those who need you, those who will see Him in your actions, your words, your life? What if we all run, if we board our own ships to our own Tarshish, away from our own personal Ninevehs? What trials will we face for our disobedience? What whales will be waiting upon us because of our reluctance?

How about a more terrible question: What spiritual blood will stain our hands for the rest of our lives if we do not enter the battlefield and offer hope and truth to God knows how many who may be waiting on us specifically? God can use us and everything we do, if we let Him.

The message continues next time…
