Children of Faith, Part 9

We need to love our children enough to do what we have been tasked to do, and in spite of whatever reasons we may think we have to the contrary…

We need to put the television remote aside, and talk to them about God.

We need to to turn off the game long enough to talk to them about God.

We need to set the cell phone down long enough to talk to them about God.

We need to love our children enough to spare them a destiny of hellfire.

Father & Son

If we don’t raise up our children with God, we will raise up a generation of people obsessed with themselves, lovers of pleasure, people without morals or a sense of true right and wrong. We see just this in the culture spreading around us today.

If we take time to invest in our children, teaching them about the Lord and the value of the Scriptures, we have done something!

Even if they turn away, they will remember.

When things get dark, and hope bleeds away from their situation, they will remember.

When times get hard and resources get slim, they will remember.

They will remember the Word. They will remember the Bible. They will remember God.

One day, the hunger that they can’t escape just may bring them back to where they know they can be fed. The Lord will call back the lost sheep. The prodigal just may return, but only if we take the time to give them a foundation to remember and set an example for them to trust!

As a father, I don’t ever want my children to go through life like I did for so many years.

I don’t want my children to sit up at night wrestling with questions of faith!

I don’t want my children to walk through life a single day wondering if God is real!

I don’t want my children to contemplate suicide because they know no hope.

I don’t want my children to even consider going down some of the paths I walked!

And I don’t want any of that for your children either!

Folks, we need to invest in our children, their future, their world, and their eternity. We need to raise them up according to the Word. In order to do that though, we need to spend time in the Word ourselves. We need to love the Scriptures. We need to love God. We need to appreciate everything he does for us and be vocal about that.

We need to live as He instructs us. We need to love as he instructs us. We need to be a model for our children to see!

You can rest assured, they are watching. They may look apathetic behind their cartoons, cell phones, and videogames, but they are watching. They are paying attention. They may not act like it, but they are learning from us and will one day follow our lead.

Let’s give them something proper to follow. Let’s set an example for them. Let’s give our children memories of our walk with God that the will not forget, memories that they themselves will aspire to make with their own children. Memories like I have of my grandmothers. Memories of you caring enough to get them to church. Memories of humble prayers in a darkened room before bed. Memories that they can live by and build upon.

Thanks so much, and God bless!
