Digitalisation lies at the heart of the UK energy network’s future. It forms a critical part of keeping consumer prices manageable, and decarbonising the network.
Ofgem recently published its decision to move the industry in this direction with policies that will roll out over the next few years. Such is the nature of the regulated utilities sector that when Ofgem makes such a clear decision, the 16 companies controlling power supplies to the UK must respond.
The Energy Data Taskforce was established in 2018, and set out key objectives to form the Modernising Energy Data programme. This has been passed to Ofgem - which will lead on roll-out and regulatory control.
