What this site collects, which is close to nothing, and what happens to the little that any web server records when a page is requested.
Cookies, of which there are none
This site sets no cookies. It runs no analytics package, no advertising, no tag manager, no heat mapping and no session recording, so there is nothing here that follows a reader from one page to the next or from this site to another one. That is why you were not asked to consent to anything on arrival: there is nothing to consent to.
The pages are static files. Nothing is embedded from a third party, no video player or social widget loads, and the three typefaces are served from this domain rather than fetched from a font provider, so viewing a page does not quietly announce your visit to anyone else.
What the server records
The site is hosted by Vercel. Like every web host, its servers record the technical details of a request in order to serve it and to keep the service running: the internet address the request came from, the page asked for, the date and time, the response code, and the browser and operating system the browser reports. Those logs are held by the host under its own privacy policy and are not combined with anything else, because there is nothing else.
Nobody here builds a profile from that data, and it is not sold, shared or used for advertising. Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation the lawful basis for holding it is legitimate interests, namely delivering a website and defending it against abuse.
Search
The search page runs entirely in your browser. It downloads a small index of article headlines from this domain and matches your words against it locally. Search terms are not sent to a server, not logged and not stored, and the query never leaves the page you typed it into.
If you send an email
There is no form on this site, so the only way to send anything is to write to one of the addresses on the contact page. If you do, the message and the address it came from are held in the publication's mailbox for as long as the correspondence is live and for a reasonable period afterwards, so that a correction can be traced back to whoever reported it. Correspondence is not added to any mailing list, because there is no mailing list.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you may ask what personal data is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, and object to it being held at all. Requests go to editorial@foundry4.com and are answered within one month. In practice the only personal data this publication is likely to hold about a reader is an email they chose to send.
If a request is handled badly, a complaint can be made to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
This page describes the site as it is built today. If analytics, a form, a newsletter or any commercial arrangement is ever added, this policy will be rewritten before the feature goes live rather than afterwards, and the date below will move.
